Tues April 22, 2014

Hey Everyone,

Sorry it was Easter weekend, and they have "Easter Monday" as well, weird eh? We're short on time and I have only a bit to email. But anyways, that sounds super fun, the easter pageant and stuff. I loved Easter. We got to see D. Todd Christopherson speak to us, and I got to shake his hand!! He was literally the funniest guy ever, and I couldn't believe that he was joking as much as he was. It was great!

at the conference with D. Todd Christopherson
Yesterday was a rough day. Me and my zone leader hit heads really hard and we both blacked out. I actually got dropped to a knee and he was on the floor. It was super funny. I still have a headache. I wrestled one of the assistants at the mission office because I shot him with a rubberband and he tried to tackle me but I threw him on the floor. haha it was super funny!!

Well another missionary is going home early from my district. That's 3 since I've been here. I'm getting really frustrated about the whole thing.

So in Regina, we had to stay at members' houses because there were so many missionaries there, and my good friend Elder Barton got the keys to a members house who told him that they wouldn't be there, and to just stay the night, they told him that it was number 44. So the 8 missionaries went to the address. They all ran up the stairs and one of them yelled "house party" and then this naked German guy ran out of the bathroom yelling at them. THEY WENT TO THE WRONG HOUSE, AND THE KEY OPENED THE DOOR! hahaha it was so funny and they explained what happened.

We just had district meeting today and it was pretty good. I thought so at least.

I have a really good video of me playing with some member kids in the snow from yesterday. I'll put it on dropbox.

Oh and one other thing, I'm requesting to go and open up a reserve in Saskatchewan called "carry the kettle" its a super crazy reserve (and includes 3 other reserves) and President said that if he opens it, he has to send a big tough white elder and a Mexican elder cause 2 white elders would not be the best. So hopefully I can go do that with a good friend of mine, Elder Rivera. We would do so much work there. I'll let you know what President says.

So that's all that's been happening here. I'm doing my best. I cant wait to Skype you all on may 11! It's going to be great!

And yes, the Q96 pills are really helping, thank you!!

Love you all, and thanks for all the support!

Yeah it snowed pretty hard the other day. It's in the 20's and 30's. It's alright I guess. We're starting the temple back up again today and hopefully we will talk to some people. I'm staying here until May 29th with Elder Coombs. That was our transfer calls. So that stinks, but whatever. I've been talking to our ward mission leader a ton lately and he totally agrees with everything I say to him. He agrees with how stupid the leadership is between missionaries and how this whole numbers game is so stupid. He sent me a list of 15 things that he disliked about the mission here and they're all my thoughts exactly. I dont know what Sis Reed said that her husband said about this mission, but its the exact same as it was back then.

I'm pretty excited to go and listen to D. Todd Christofferson speak to us on Saturday. I'm looking forward to the 6 hour car ride as well. It will be nice.

Well, have a good week, love you, Elder Porter

Hey Everyone.

Yeah, I loved conference a lot. Jeffery R. Holland was a powerhouse, I loved it. So next weekend we get to go to Regina and hear D. Todd Christofferson speak to us. I'm pretty excited about it.

I got the package on Wednesday and I have been taking the vitamins and hopefully they help. Last night I did pretty good when I confronted Elder Coombs about listening in on my interview with President Thomas. He was listening to my interview with Pres. and Elder Muirhead saw him trying to listen so I was trying to be calm, and we got everything figured out. I didnt even yell once. It was good compared to some of the other confrontations we've had.

That's going to be fun doing the whole ropes obstacle course with Dad for youth conference. That should be way fun, and I get the conference ensign in a couple weeks, so I'll actually have it before you haha!

So last night our zone leaders called us and tried to make us feel like crap because things are really slow. They were saying how every one needs to just step it up and get new investigators. The only reason they get investigators, is because they are in ysa and get referrals. Like no one in the mission is doing very well with getting people to teach and we're doing our absolute best to find people that are ready. It really ticked me off because we work our butts off trying to find kingdom builders. So this week we're going to just go down to the ghetto in downtown and teach a bunch of drunk natives and report to them that we all got 5 new investigators but we didn't fullfill our purpose, because these people are not going to progress at all. I'm so sick of this number game. This isn't a competition, and who do the zone leaders think they are? Like they're my age, but all of a sudden they think they can chastise me? So were going to start doing crazy things to find people because what everyone has been doing hasn't been cutting it. We're planning on going to the park and building a big tower out of church dvds and having people come to us and just doing crazy things like that so that we can find people to teach. haha so yeah it's frustrating.

I'm making a drop box accout so that I can put videos on there from my mission so that you can watch them. I'll tell you how it works when I figure it out.

love you all,
Elder Porter

p.s. Coombs and I are most likely staying together for another 2 months, so I'm not excited for that. I am trying to stay positive, but as you can tell, I'm pretty frustrated. Hopefully things will improve. It's starting to get a bit warmer, not Arizona warm, but warmer for here, like 20's or 30's in Farenheight.

March 31, 2014

Well this week was good. I taught our investigator Marcy. I say "I" because Elder Coombs didn't say a word, so that was overall good. haha. So we went shopping today and I got a bunch of super healthy food and told him to get his own stuff. He started getting the same stuff I did and I was just laughing. Then he got a bunch of mac and cheese so that was good. He's been telling me to make him dinner, and I am trying to show him how it goes as a missionary. We need to do it together. I am wondering if he has been babied his whole life. I got some curry stuff. I'm excited. oh and quinoa. That's good. We were fasting yesterday and it was like 3 pm and he was begging me to stop fasting so I fasted until like 7 and he was almost crying haha. I told him he could break his fast whenever he wanted and that it was his agency, but he was starving.
We went to Cabellas today, so that was fun. I found a pair of slacks at Costco for 20 bucks, so I'm excited about that.
Elder Olguin is going to call me tonight, and I get to talk to Elder Barton on Wednesday, so that will be fun.
I'm trying to make things fun. It is hard, but it's so funny. Like we're going tracting on Wednesday, and Elder Coombs is going to be so awkward and I'm not going to bail him out. I'm so excited. He really wants to go street contacting, but there is literally no one on the streets cause its still freakin cold, but we walk for like 20 min and then he starts limping really bad, so we go back to the apartment and he lays down and takes some ibuprofren.
street contacting at its finest. this picture literally explains our mission. no one outside and no one to talk to
So I bought some Melatonin. I think I'm going to marry her. She's my new girlfriend.
I got a bunch of new weight lifting stuff from this meti guy in our ward (Sky) we're pretty good friends. He wants me to come to his house and have a "gospel rap battle" with him... and rap about the gospel. I think I'm going to. It will be entertaining at least. Plus he has like 8 guys living in his house that are non members so that could be good. I've been practicing and I think im a born rapper. joke. at least it will give me a break from my companion.
I was reading this autobiography about Porter Rockwell, but I asked President Thomas about it and he told me it would be better not to. I was pretty upset, but whatever. I was already like 100 pages into it, now I have to put it down. so that stinks.
Anyways. Things are the same. I'm trying to stay positive so that's basically it. Love you all!
