March 10, 2014

Hey Everyone,

This is tough. My new companion Elder Coombs has something called Perthies Disease meaning that he can barely walk and when its cold he can’t walk barely at all... and we’re in Canada, and we didn’t have a car for his first 3 days. We got our car today so that should be better. I just don’t know what to do. It’s going to be a really tough few months. We went out to build a huge snow fort today and it was the warmest it has been in 6 months and he couldn’t stay outside for more than an hour and he was limping around almost falling down. I don’t know what I’m going to do. We can’t go street contacting or tracting or anything that I usually do. I’m just really kind of depressed almost, but I’ll just have to make the best of it.

Anyways I got my birthday package! I loved it! Thank you so much! Everything was great! Was that Max Halls signature on the Bombers hat?

Some crazy things happened this week. I street contacted this guy that was super, super drunk, and he tried giving me a bunch of weed, so that was nice. I didn’t take it in case you were wondering. I talked to him for like 45 minutes and I was not in the best mood, so I was pretty condescending to him. He kept telling me all about the partying stuff that he did and I said to him multiple times that if he wanted to change his life and stop doing the stupid things that would probably get him no where in life that he could definitely call us. I’m pretty sure if I wasn’t so intimidating to him he would have fought me.

We got a new investigator this week. Her name is Marcy. She is a new girlfriend of the guy we’ve brought back to church (Scott) and she even came to church yesterday. It was great! We’re teaching her again Friday. That first lesson was really rough because Elder Coombs hasn’t ever really taught, but it went good enough. We go street contacting for a few minutes every day because he can’t be out for long and I just hang him out to dry every time. It sounds mean but that’s the only way he’s going to learn hahaha.

Elder Coombs is from a small town in Utah called Salina. It has about 300 people in it and so his social skills aren’t the best that they could be, but he’s a good enough guy. I’ve scared him half to death already probably by telling him all of the crazy stories that we see of natives and stuff.

But anyways I’m just trying to do my best to stay motivated and stuff. Hopefully things will work out for the best, and that we will be able to figure stuff out. I’ll keep you all posted.

Thanks for all the support. Love you

Elder Porter
