Hey Everyone!
cold... thats all I can say.... it was -42 F this week. we weren’t allowed to proselyte a few days because it was so flippen cold. I dumped a pot of boiling water out our 3rd story window and it all turned to steam, and the stuff that didn’t was ice before it hit the floor. yep. Canada.
I had to get new slacks, because I ripped my other 2 pair from slipping in the snow, and with all the layers, well, yeah. Don't worry, they weren't my suit pants. So this is what I got, they are nice, and stretch which is good for layering.
This week was good. a little sad, because I get transferred, but really good. we went to dinner at the Drennan’s on monday. Super funny guy. He served his mission here and then swore he would never come back because he was from Novascotia and when he joined canadian swat he got posted here and was soo mad hahahaha. He’s a super funny guy. I’ll get to eat dinner with them once a month because they go to Waverly for dinner with there cousins every third Sunday. I am going to be with Elder Olguin in Winnipeg, serving in my mission President’s ward, Waverly ward. Elder Olguin has been out for 8 months, and I will be the senior companion. I found out the reason why, I guess elder Olguin a while back went swimming with his other companion like 6 months ago at the beginning of his mission. His companion was doing therapy in the pool for an injury or something. He had permission, and elder Olguin just went swimming too. So he is in the “tiny trust box”, he’s changed though. he wants to do good and he’s a really good missionary. I was talking to him a bit last night. I’m not supposed to know about this, but my zone leader told me. so yeah.. haha
We got super sick with food poisoning last night... we had a potluck at the church and we went into Winnipeg last night for choir and the Christmas devotional and since we are not allowed to travel after dark we just stayed at the district leaders house and I got up at 1 am and rushed to the bathroom and was in there for a while and when I came out Elder Johnson and Elder Gardner were waiting by the door because they were sick too... it wasn’t fun but we were better in the morning. It’s so nice running off of 2 hours of sleep too, fun stuff haha!
We had lunch at the Archembaults for the last time. It was some good food but Sis. Archembault wasn’t feeling well and she had to give a talk because her daughter Kassian had her farewell talk on Sunday and she had to speak as well. She asked me for a priesthood blessing. Elder Johnson anointed and I blessed. I was a little nervous because I have only done it once before, but it was really good.
We had our Christmas party on Saturday and got the less actives that we have been working with there. It was so great to have them all there and they loved it. I was table bouncing all the tables with non members and less actives and I sat with the Kiskan boys. They’re triplets and super crazy, and there was paper on all the tables and i was coloring with them for quite a while haha. It was lots of fun.
I’m sure going to miss the branch. I’ve come so close to so many members and they were very upset when they heard that I was leaving. We went to the Emers house for the last time last night and all their little girls were so sad that I was leaving. but I promised them that when my parents come to pick me up from my mission that we will come by and say hello since Selkirk is only 45 min from the mission home. They are going to hold me to that promise so hopefully that’s okay with my parents haha!
We taught Priesthood on Sunday. Totally didn’t prepare a lesson until priesthood session. still got an A+ on it haha.
Kassian Archembault gave her farewell talk yesterday and she wanted us at her setting apart. It was really neat. A whole lot different than my farewell. about 10X less people at hers than mine. It was really nice though. She’s going to do great. She’s going to St. George Utah temple visitors center French speaking. yeah french. weird haha.
Funny story for the week haha. So we went to see a referall, Bill, on Manitoba Ave. and there aren’t any sidewalks on his side of the street and it was a main street. He wasn’t home and it was -30 outside so we started plowing through the super deep snow up to our knees. Elder Johnson fell face first into the snow and I was running behind him. well I didn’t want people to think he was hurt so as soon as he got to his feet I ran by and pushed him back over... face first in the snow hahahahahahaha it was so funny. People were rolling down their windows yelling stuff like “man down! man down!” haha it was sooo funny!
We did lots of service this week. We got about 9 inches of snow so we just walked the streets with shovels. The wind picked up and drifted in Brother Lekapoy into his house so we dug him out, it was just a small drift, and we used his snowblower and i got the roof rake and got all the snow off his roof. on the way back we saw an older lady shoveling her snow and she was struggling. We made a u turn and she had gone inside. We got her drive done in like 5 min and she came out begging us to take some money and i just told her "no, but you can repay us by coming to this Christmas party tomorrow night! It will be fun! nice people, good food!" she asked if she could bring her grandson and I said of course. She didn’t show up, but thats okay.
Well I’m glad you are all doing well, and I sure missed building gingerbread houses with everyone. I can’t wait to hear from you guys on Christmas. Love you all! Elder Porter
